“You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control the way you think about all the events. You always have a choice. You can choose to face them with a positive mental attitude.”
Do you understand the power of your choices?
You never have to feel trapped, helpless or invisible again. Remember that no matter what your situation, you can choose your response. If you want to fight for a relationship, you can. If you want to leave a relationship you can. If you want a new job you can find one or if you want to fi to make the job you have better you can. These are choices and they involve managing how you respond to the behaviors of others. Every day we make a decision on whether to be happy or sad. We can choose to be satisfied with our lives or not.
Focus on Your Own Attitude
How do I manage my own attitude?
One of the most common things I hear in therapy is how someone or something makes a person feel. My response is always the same, “No one or nothing can make you feel anyway because you are in charge of your own attitude. You can choose how you respond. You feel that way because you choose to do so.” If you focus on your attitude and not on the behavior of others you can be a better steward of your emotional state. Don’t waste any more time complaining about how someone else needs to change to make you happy. You cannot control the behaviors of others, it is their choice whether or not they will change. You are responsible for own happiness!
Most People Need Practice
In psychotherapy, you can learn to focus on how you respond to others and the situations in your daily life. This takes practice, it does not always come naturally. Thinking that others can control the way you feel is like a bad habit. And like all habits, it can be difficult to change. With the right therapy you can do it and realize a different quality of life.
